Overwatch is a first person shooter developed by Blizzard. Like their other games, there are several characters, called heroes, to choose from; currently 22, to be exact. These heroes range are separated into four categories, which include offense, defense, tanks, and supports.

Abilities, powers, and gear are unique to each hero. These are used to defeat their opponents, protect the players on their team, and move around the map during battle. The heroes have a primary weapon and a secondary weapon. There are no ammo drops for the weapons, the player just needs to reload and keep attacking and defending. Along with the weapons, each hero has a melee attack for quick, close range combat. While players are dealing damage they are charging their “Ultimate Weapon.” This can be a game changer and, like the abilities, they are unique to each hero.

As players battle in the matches, they gain levels and unlock customization feature for the heroes. The customization aspect include different skins for the heroes, finishing poses, and dialogue lines. If players want to collect them faster, they can also buy crates that allow players to gain other customization assets.

Overwatch currently has six different game modes. “Practice Range” is a map where players can go and learn how to use the different heroes. “Play/Practice vs A.I.” allows the players to fight against A.I., or Artificial Intelligence, and try different maps and heroes. “Quick Play” lets the players battle against other people who are at the same skill level. “Custom Game” lets the players change the modifiers, such as the rate in which the “Ultimate Ability” charges during battle. “Weekly Brawl” changes each week and they are experimental matches where the rule sets change. Lastly, “Competitive Play” allows the players to battle and move up in the ranking system.

During any of the game modes, when the players fulfill the victory condition for the map and game mode, the match ends and the one team wins. After the match ends, players can see how everyone else contributed during the battle. Players can also vote for the most valuable player, give feedback, and watch the “Play of the Game.”
